"A spring shower soaks a field along Highway 61 near Clarksdale, Mississippi, a fertile place for cotton—and the blues. The land produced a who's who of musical greats. Many joined the migration of blacks from the South to northern cities along what came to be known as the 'blues highway' connecting New Orleans and Chicago. Between 1915 and 1970 the nation witnessed a relocation of more than five million African Americans."
