图片故事:高清壁纸:英文注释:Not far from the newfound wreck of John F. Kennedy's PT-109, a ferry closes in on Kolombangara Island's Ringi Cove.On the night a World War II Japanese destroyer collided with Kennedy's boat, the island swarmed with some 10,000 Japanese troops. Today 5,000-odd villagers sparsely populate the island, but the Ringi port—little more than a muddy promontory—regains a bit of animation with the ferry's twice-weekly visits. Where destroyers and barges once unloaded men and matériel, the eagerly awaited ferry brings friends, family, and goods from across the 900-mile (1,500-kilometer) Solomon archipelago.
