"Angling to 'put a little English' on the ball, a robed youngster lines up his shot in a room above St. Peter's sacristy. He and his companions attend the school for Vatican altar boys. Students enroll in the three-year course at age 11; some will stay on and prepare for the priesthood. For two hours before school, the boys are on call to help priests at Mass. Meantime they relax, trading soccer cards and taking turns at the pinball machine."
